They are Watching You

My dad’s spiritual transformation was the greatest witness and possibly the most significant influence (besides the Lord) on my decision to follow Jesus and break free from a false identity.

My dad, Dwayne, did not continually remind me of my sins and their consequences according to the Bible. He told me once, face to face, and that was it. After that, he contended in secret prayer and practiced wisdom that came from the secret place. He went from being a short-tempered, alcoholic, and severe disciplinarian, to a meek, wise, and soft-spoken father.

While I lived openly in the LGBTQ+ lifestyle, my dad would ask me questions that seemed random at the time, but in retrospect, they were not random at all. One of the questions went like this:

“Did you know that there is no homosexuality in heaven? It only exists here in the flesh.”

That is pretty much all he said, and it confused me at first, but boy, did I ruminate on that for some time! I began to see for myself that the desires of my flesh here on earth were not the same as the desires of my spirit man.

This was a catalytic moment in my life. The stronghold of my identity rooted in physical attraction began to crack. Within three years, it would fall apart completely. Glory to God.

If you desire to see transformation in the lives of those around you, start and never stop the process of working out your own spiritual formation. They are watching.

“If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.” - James 3:13 (NLT)
