Activities that Celebrate God's Design for Boys and Girls

Aloha Friends!
We promised some activity ideas you can do with your children to help celebrate and affirm God's design for boys and girls. Before you read these ideas, please keep in mind that every child is unique and we never want to shame or box a child into rigid gender stereotypes that stifle their growth.
We included ideas for those children whose interests may cross cultural stereotypes. We celebrate boys who love to dance, work with floral arrangements and fashion, just as much as we celebrate girls who love weight-lifting, leadership, and engineering.
It is important to always seek the Lord for creative ways to meet your child where they are at and connect their interests and skills back to the Lord's design for men and women. A great way is to always focus on the godly character of a man or woman of God. We know that the Bible is filled with wisdom and solutions for every need. If you ask Him, He will lead you to the answers you are looking for.
Here is the list of activity ideas that you can do with young children to celebrate and affirm the way God made them, male or female.
*We will send ideas for older elementary-aged children and teenagers next week. Please share this with friends and family!
As you go through these activity ideas, reflect on any cultural stereotypes around male and female roles that God may want you to release or reconcile with His truths.
Young Children (Ages 3-7)
1. Bible Storytime & Role Play – Read about biblical men and women (David, Esther, Deborah, Joseph) and act them out together, emphasizing their character over stereotypes.
2. "God Made Me Special" Art Project – Have them draw themselves and list things they love about how God made them.
3. Daddy & Me / Mommy & Me Dates – Fathers take sons on an adventure, and mothers do something special with daughters to celebrate their uniqueness. Involve trusted aunties, uncles and grandparents if they are available.
4. Kindness & Courage Charts – Encourage boys to practice bravery (helping, protecting) and girls to practice kindness (caring, sharing).
5. Family Blessing Night – Speak words of affirmation over each child, reinforcing their worth in Christ and their God-given identity.
For Kids with Interests that Cross Stereotypes:
For Boys Who Are Creative: Remind them that God is the ultimate Creator (Genesis 1:1) and that creativity is a reflection of His image. King David was a warrior AND a musician (1 Samuel 16:23).
For Girls Who Love Sports or Adventure: Encourage them by highlighting strong biblical women like Deborah, who led Israel (Judges 4-5), and Jael, who showed great courage (Judges 4:17-22).
