A Kingdom-minded Strategy to Overcome Porn Addiction

Updated: Sep 9

Aloha Friends,

At the root of pornography consumption and addiction lies a deeper need—one that only Jesus can truly satisfy.

The statistics on pornography exposure among young people paint a troubling picture. But beyond the numbers is a generation with a Jesus-shaped hole in their hearts. We could overwhelm you with data, but that would only scratch the surface of what’s really going on.

To truly address the issue of pornography, we must build up and fortify our young people with truth by connecting them to the King of Kings. Where their treasure is, their heart will be also (Matthew 6:21).

If we intentionally cultivate a culture of seeking the Kingdom first—through abiding in Jesus—we keep Him enthroned in our hearts. And when Jesus is our treasure, our hearts are satisfied in Him.

In the coming weeks, we’ll explore the deeper root causes behind porn consumption and addiction. We’ll offer scriptural insights, practical counsel, and intentional activities to help you minister to the young people in your life—and dethrone porn once and for all.

Here are six common root causes we’ll be confronting:

  1. Emotional Avoidance

  2. Loneliness & Attachment Hunger

  3. Shame & Low Self-Worth

  4. Compulsive Behavior & Lack of Self-Control

  5. Trauma & Unresolved Pain

  6. Control & Escape

As we journey together, remember this:

Building a culture of abiding in Jesus isn’t just about morning devotions—it’s about daily dependence, moment-by-moment intimacy, and allowing Christ’s presence to transform the whole person.

This kind of culture:

  • Rewires the brain through peace and presence

  • Rebuilds the heart through truth and trust

  • Restores the body through holy rhythms of rest, grace, and love

Stay tuned for next week’s post, where we’ll tackle emotional avoidance head-on.

God bless you all,

The Explicit Movement Ohana
